A Call to Printmaking

This is the new block for the next edition of prints. Like a small child tugging at my skirt, the printmaking muse let me know that they had been sorely neglected.  Not forgotten, but the vacation I took by painting daily in September has been followed by an ink drawing (#inktober), every day in October. I've been looking for and waiting for an image that would translate into a woodblock print.

There is a speck of old growth trees in our neighborhood, this group is not far from our place.
Growing on a steep hillside, near the home of a childhood family friend, where we were always glad to play in the small creek on their property. As I did the drawing, I could hear the current children playing and it blended with the nostalgic feelings of summer's abandon to the importance of discoveries in the woodland. A small amber-like agate, an insect wing or an elegant seed pod.

After transferring the image to the block, (and reversed it so when printed, the image will face in the direction of the original drawing (the image on the far right).
Inking the image with permanent ink is next then on to carving.
Ready for carving.
